Within Judaism Women had little or no authority, they were under the authority of men all their lives, either their father before marriage or their husbands afterwards. Women were considered inferior to men, and were classed as second class citizens. Jewish culture was a male dominant one. Jewish authorities thought women held a low status and esteem in society. Women only had rights within the home and even then they were limited. When she began her menstrual cycle, a woman was seen as unclean
