Forcing people to register to get to content that they reached without registration is a "bad" thing because it an inconvinience and has a surprise element to it. Since the event is unexpected it very annoying to first time users and a sure way of turning them away.
Further any method that depend on weak ideas like requiring them to provide information that we can never confirm is true or false is pointless and should be avoided at all times.
