	Africans became part of the colonies because they were taken from their homelands and forced to do to physical labor on plantations and farms. Often enslaved Africans would be separated from their families. Africans were brought over to the Americas on ships that used the Middle Passage and once they arrived at their destination, they were auctioned off to wealthy landowners, farmers, etc. African Americans suffered from death, malnutrition, and disease, while on their voyage from the homeland
