Gatsby's Personal Destruction

In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, the title character and the main protagonist, Jay Gatsby, rose from an impoverished childhood in rural North Dakota to become fabulously wealthy. In my oral presentation I will examine the process in which, James Gatz, the farm boy from North Dakota, became Jay Gatsby, a man of such self-love that sentimentality eventually engulfed him and led to his destruction.
