     People usually have underlying motives and hatred towards certain people they know. In Edgar Allan Poe’s stories “The Cask of Amontillado,” and “The Tell-Tale Heart,” the characters had premeditated intentions to kill. In Lavin’s story “The Widow’s Son,” the widow did not physically kill her son, but she killed him emotionally. In human psychology, it is a norm to feel hatred and jealousy, but to take action on those feelings takes a rare type of person.
