Fountains abbey was founded in 1132 and originated from a breakaway movement of monks from St. Mary’s of York. There intention was to get back to the basics of the Benedictine monks, which they believed had been strayed from. At the same time in France the Cistercians were founded. This movement joined the Cistercians as they shard many of the same beliefs and it was a benefit to join a group.
It is impossible to argue that fountains was not a religious site in some context, we can see this
