Hypotheses or Inferences---Hunches Versus Judgements

A scientist often begins trying to find a solution to a problem by forming a hypothesis.--an idea about what might be causing something to occur, or, when observing a child, a source for the child's actions. A hypothesis would then be an educated guess. After it has been formed, we would gather more data that might either support or could refute, or not hold up the argument.
