	Baseball in the middle to late 19th century was very much the same as the modern game of baseball. This is due largely to Alexander Cartwright publishing the first set of rules. In 1845 Alexander Joy Cartwright founded the Knickerbocker Baseball Club of New York. This was the first club organized for the sole purpose of playing baseball. When he organized the club he set rules to go with his game. Cartwright set his baseball field in the shape of a diamond. It had 3 bases and a home plate.
