SERGEI RACHMANINOFF (1873 - 1943)
It is our hope that a glimpse into the life of Sergei Vassilievitch Rachmaninoff will lay a foundation for the appreciation of his third piano concerto. His unrequited love of his motherland, Russia, can be heard in this beautiful composition. Perhaps, it reflects a premonition of the longing he would feel for his homeland, years prior to its destruction.
This piece was chosen for our last Musical Journey primarily out of our love for piano music.
